A control group of mice, which have no selection procedures, and a selected line of mice, which are chosen based on reproductive longevity, were examined. Five mice from the control and selected line at 50 days and 18 months were taken to compare telomere length between each of the total 20 mice. DNA was extracted from liver tissue and the quality and quantity of the genomic DNA was evaluated. The DNA was used in a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to determine the length of the telomere for each individual. Results show that stress (reproductive) is able to shorten lifespan.
