The Problem with Pickerels

Student: Juliana Ali

District/Region: Chignecto Central Region

Event: 2012 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Grade 10 - Northumberland Regional High School

The invasive species, chain pickerel (Esox niger), can survive in waters with the salinity of up to 15ppt (Scott, W. B. and Crossman, E. J., 1973). Due to the high salinity tolerance of chain pickerel there is a concern that they could withstand the salinities of an estuary long enough to travel from one river to another using the estuary as a pathway.
