Micro Hydro Potential: Margaree Watershed

Student: Brendan Peters

District/Region: Strait District

Event: 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Brendan is a student at Cape Breton Highlands Academy-Education Centre and his project studied the feasibility of micro hydro power generation within the Margaree River watershed.

His project looked at how these systems would have a low impact on the watershed’s ecosystem and would preserve the integrity of the Margaree Heritage River. If proven feasible, these systems would reduce the amount of coal being currently consumed and would contribute to a healthier environment.

His project earned a Renewable Energy Award at the 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Truro. Brendan is a young Nova Scotian celebrating science and discovery. Congratulations Brendan!
