Aquatic Pathway

Student: Macall Robinson

District/Region: Annapolis Valley Region

Event: 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Macall is a student at West Kings District High School and his project studied how a refugium might effect water chemistry and growth in a 50-gallon saltwater aquarium.

In the refugium he put alga in it called Caulerpa Prolifera. He tested the water for nitrate, ammonia, nitrite, and Ph for 3 weeks to see if there was any change in the water chemistry. His conclusion: by having a refugium he saw really good results after 3 weeks and improvement in overall invertebrate growth.

His project earned an Australian National Youth Science Forum Award at the 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Truro. Macall is a young Nova Scotian celebrating science and discovery. Congratulations Macall!
