Polar Ice: Electric Fields and the Effects on Ice

Student: Rebecca Bigelow

District/Region: Chignecto Central Region

Event: 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Rebecca is a student at South Colchester Academy and her project, 'Polar Ice: Electric Fields and the Effects on Ice', investigated the effects of electric fields on ice.

To determine if electric fields affect ice, dishes of water were frozen some within an electric field and others without. It was hypothesized that water frozen within an electric field would create ice with different characteristics than regular ice. Various qualities were examined and to verify results multiple tests were run. After examination it could be concluded that the ice was different.

At her Regional Science Fair, Rebecca won First place in the senior category, a Gold in Senior Physical Science, and Second overall.

Congratulations, Rebecca!
