Subway Productivity Time Study

Student: Nicole Palmer

District/Region: Annapolis Valley Region

Event: 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Nicole is a student at West Kings District High School and her project investigated the productivity of Subway sandwich preparation. At her Regional Science Fair, Nicole won a Gold medal in Mathematics and Computer Science, and best Mathematics and Computer Science project.

This project monitored the productivity, effectiveness and efficiency of the restaurant Subway. It was found that time requirements to make a sub are not being met, and solutions like the Vegetable Preparer were suggested in attempts to speed up the process. The data was collected using a calibrated stopwatch, and was analyzed using the Microsoft Excel program.

At the Nationals, Nicole was awarded the Petro Canada Peer Innovation Award at the Senior Level.

Congratulations, Nicole!
